Despite a last-minute cancellation by Lykke Li, a sold-out crowd showed up Sunday for the FM94/9 Independence Jam in Oceanside. Several local bands on the Casbah stage traded sets with the main stage acts as the smell of kettle corn wafted through the air. The sun was out, the surf was near, and the music was top-notch as usual.

Photos of Everest, Heavy Hawaii, Surfer Blood, Band of Skulls, The Soft Pack, Crocodiles, Peter Bjorn and John, The Silent Comedy, and Cold War Kids are below. Continue reading…

Indie Jam Primer: Lykke Li – “Get Some”

Lykke Li performed her single “Get Some,” from her terrific new album Wounded Rhymes, on Jimmy Kimmel last night. San Diegans will be able to catch the sultry Swedish songstress at the FM 94/9 Independence Jam this weekend, along with Cold War Kids, Peter Bjorn and John, Band of Skulls, Everest, The Silent Comedy, Crocodiles, Surfer Blood, The Soft Pack, and Heavy Hawaii.

UPDATE: FM 94/9 just announced on their Twitter page that, due to a lost voice, Lykke Li has cancelled her Independence Jam appearance. Anybody looking for a refund is being directed to their website.

Anybody who has seen Little Hurricane play knows that the band’s impending yearlong adventure away from San Diego is a reason to be sad. In the past year, they’ve established themselves as one of our city’s fastest rising and most dynamic acts, and their absence is sure to create a void in the local music scene.

Luckily, there’s still a chance to give them a proper sendoff. The blues-rock duo will play a farewell show at Bar Pink this Saturday, November 27th, and you don’t want to miss it. In addition to Little Hurricane, two great opening acts will be on hand — first, the always-amazing Erika Davies will enchant with her velvety voice, then The Brothers Grimm (aka Josh and Jeremiah Zimmerman from The Silent Comedy) will get things cooking with their fraternal folk.

In anticipation of the show, Little Hurricane were kind enough to perform an exclusive session for us at NBC Studios. Check out the video and MP3s above, then head out to Bar Pink on Saturday to see them off in style.
