It may only be January, but it seems safe to declare Tristen the year’s most charming new artist. The young musician is set to release her full-length debut, Charlatans at the Garden Gate, on February 1st via American Myth Recordings. The 11-track album is an instantly appealing collection of sunny pop and introspective ballads set afloat by the 26-year-old’s enchanting, spritely vocals. Continue reading…
We here at Owl and Bear have been buying your adoration with gifts — whether they be free concert tickets or album giveaways — for some time now. But, with Christmas right around the corner, we figured we should step up our game a bit. Continue reading…
U.K. post-punks Clinic are coming to San Diego, and we have a pair of tickets to give away.
The band is on a rare fourteen-city tour in support its excellent sixth album, Bubblegum, and the November 21 show at the Casbah will be the final stop. Revered by fellow musicians, Clinic have a wholly original sound, and since the late ’90s, they’ve beamed their brand of psychedelic pop into stereos across the world.
San Francisco’s The Fresh & Onlys will open the show, along with San Diego’s Lights On and The Loons. This year, the Fresh & Onlys released a handful of 7-inch singles, an EP, and — to cap off the year — a new LP called Play It Strange. DJ’s Mikey Face and Cory Casey will also be on hand to spin vinyl between sets.
This show will almost certainly sell out, so if you’re not a gambler, you can get tickets here.

When the Los Angeles Times, SPIN, Paste, Q, NME, and Mojo all say that you should keep an eye on a certain band, they’re probably not wrong — especially when the band in question is San Diego’s The Soft Pack.
The punk four-piece has spent much of the past year touring here, there, and/or everywhere in support of their acclaimed self-titled debut, out now on Kemado Records. They’re currently sharing headlining duties with none other than Kurt Vile, and to celebrate their newfound success they’re hocking a very limited edition seven-inch entitled “Gagdad” at each show.
You can snatch up a copy of the record on November 13th at the Casbah, when The Soft Pack’s tour finally draws to a close. We’re offering you a chance to see them for free — all you have to do is comment below and include your email address in the form (your email won’t be visible to the public). The winner will be chosen at random on November 9, 2010. Enter to win, and check out the rest of their tour dates, below. Continue reading…
On November 27 at The Casbah, Dawes will celebrate the end of their epic fall tour. We can’t wait to see them, and we can’t wait to give away two tickets to the show.
The L.A. indie rockers released their debut album, North Hills, about a year ago, and it has received rave reviews across the board. Rolling Stone called them “Rookies of the Year,” Paste called them “Best of What’s Next,” and Daytrotter declared North Hills “hands down one of the finest records of 2009.” It can’t hurt that Wilco heartthrob Pat Sansone appears on the release. They also recently recorded a live session with The Morning Benders (see above).
We’re offering two tickets to see Dawes at the Casbah on 11/27. To enter the contest, just comment below and include your email address in the form (your email won’t be visible to the public). The winner will be chosen at random on November 24, 2010.Full list of Dawes tour dates is below.
