British girl group The Pipettes have had a tumultuous year. Shortly after their terrific debut album, We Are The Pipettes, hit American shelves, two of the trio’s members left to pursue other projects. Remaining member Gwenno Saunders soldiered on, recruiting her sister Ani Saunders and Anna McDonald to replace them, and the new lineup was set to record their eagerly awaited follow-up album.
It would appear those plans have hit a snag: today the Pipettes camp announced the departure of Anna McDonald, leaving the group once again short a member. The reason for the departure, according to the band’s announcement, is that McDonald wanted to “pursue a song-writing career outside of the band.†The band insists that plans to record the next Pipettes album are still afoot, and they are currently searching for the “perfect Pipetteâ€.
No matter how much we wish it weren’t so, America is split in two. The two sides—call them conservative vs. liberal, red vs. blue, or “real†vs. “eliteâ€â€”have very different dreams for America. And while, yes, at the end of the day we are all brothers, standing united with our fellow countrymen in times of turmoil, the two Americas have been playing a decades-long tug-of-war that has usually resulted in stalemate. The results of Tuesday’s election, however, will be a huge victory for one half of the country, and could finally steer America down a single decisive path.
The trailer for the French film A Girl Cut In Two would have you think that the film is a taut, sexy, tense thriller about the violent love triangle between a beautiful girl and the two men who compete for her affections. What the film actually delivers is about as sexy and tense as Rush Limbaugh enjoying the effects of a painkiller binge.
The Decemberists have finished tracking their new full-length record, to be titled Hazards Of Love, and are about to begin mixing. The band is otherwise tight-lipped regarding its follow-up to 2006’s The Crane Wife, but we’ll keep you posted as details emerge.
