The always appealing SuicideGirls brought their Blackheart Burlesque tour back to San Diego for a show at Brick by Brick on Saturday.
As it is wont to do, Blackheart Burlesque blended clothing-optional choreography with pop-culture theatrics. Tributes to Star Wars, Game of Thrones, Donnie Darko, and Planet of the Apes — all of which were also performed at their House of Blues show last year — still maintained their charm, while more recent additions like Fifty Shades of Grey, Sailor Moon, The Little Mermaid, and a crowd-pleasing Beetlejuice dance number set to “Jump in the Line” all added some welcome variety for veterans.
But the biggest change to the show compared to previous years was the venue. Eager attendees crammed into the small, humid Linda Vista club to catch a glimpse of the easy-on-the-eyes dancers, but due to the awkward layout and barely raised stage, only the people at the very front were able to get an unobstructed view. The next time they come to town, here’s hoping the SuicideGirls return to House of Blues or another venue worthy of their endlessly entertaining and carefully crafted show.
