The Welsh band Catfish and The Bottlemen played a sold-out show at the Merrow on February 8.

Catfish and The Bottlemen have been touring ceaselessly in Europe, Australia, and Japan since they were last in the states in 2014. These guys were playing tiny little venues not too long ago, but this time around, fans scrambled to score tickets as soon as they were announced. At the Merrow, many of the band’s younger fans huddled outside and pressed their ears to the door, too young to make it inside.

Their sound is reminiscent of The Strokes, The Kooks, or early Arctic Monkeys — just good old raucous rock ‘n’ roll. Lead singer Van McCann was very gracious with the crowd, frequently checking in to make sure attendees were enjoying themselves. McCann is a very energetic performer, and he got an enthusiastic reception anytime he asked. The show’s highlights included “Pacifier,” “Sidewinder,” “Fallout,” and the chart-topping “Kathleen.”

Catfish and The Bottlemen are touring in support of their hit debut album, The Balcony.
