School of Language mastermind David Brewis has an interesting thing going.

The former Field Music member has recorded a mashup of his own solo work, and it’s really good stuff. Brewis’ post-Field Music debut Sea From Shore is a largely successful exercise in doing with original samples what Girl Talk does with (un?)fair use. Anyone interested in recording a layered solo album should definitely see Sea From Shore as a reference.

Like Girl Talk, though, some of Brewis’ tracks can get a little too eccentric, notably the “Rockist” tracks that include sampled vowel sounds. All in all, though, it’s pretty good stuff.
