Hometown heroes Little Hurricane ended their one-month US tour by playing San Diego’s House of Blues on Saturday, June 7.
Little Hurricane have been busy promoting their newest record Gold Fever, released in February of this year. Local fans are already familiar with the band’s guitar-driven, bluesy rock sound. The new album is in a similar vein to the group’s old tunes, but it adds a rich complexity that can only be found on a sophomore LP. The new song “Sheep in Wolves Clothes” was a true standout during the House of Blues set, flowing powerfully like a summer anthem.
Luckily, the duo also played some familiar hits from 2011’s Homewrecker. “Give Em Hell” boasted some call-and-response catchiness, and Celeste “C.C.” Spina’s rolling drums on “Haunted Heart” caused a roar from the crowd. Also a highlight was guitarist Anthony “Tone†Catalano’s soulful take on the Bill Withers classic “Ain’t No Sunshine,” available on the band’s 2013 online Stay Classy covers collection.
Overall, it was a very fun show with Little Hurricane sounding tighter than ever at the end of their successful tour.
