The Midnight Pine celebrated the release of their debut album, Awake Now, at JETT Gallery on Saturday. The small, dimly lit space provided the perfect backdrop for the band’s intimate, powerful arrangements. Shelbi Bennet floored the crowd with her gorgeous vocals, which at times recalled fellow San Diegan singer Erika Davies. The band gave out a free covers CD to attendees and included some songs from that EP — including Radiohead’s “Exit Music (For a Film)” and “All I Need” — in their performance. John Meeks opened.
