Since Teen Dream, the new record from Baltimore-based Beach House recently received a 9.0 rating and coveted Best New Music badge on Pitchfork, I thought I’d resurrect this 2009 interview with Alex Scally.

I spoke with Mr. Scally just over a year ago, in anticipation of their performance at San Diego’s Belly Up Tavern. We had a great conversation and talked about many things — including writing, recording, and the three D-s: David Lynch, Devotion, and Daniel Johnston, among many other subjects.

If you’re not familiar with Beach House, they just released an excellent new record, called Teen Dream, which follows up their excellent old record, called Devotion.
