Here at Owl and Bear, we haven’t exactly made a secret of our love for local band Soft Lions.
We’ve had very good things to say about their No Peace, Earth Energy, and Spellbreaker EPs, and Owl and Bear writer Chris Maroulakos even directed/co-directed a couple of music videos for the group. Suffice it to say, we like it when they record stuff.
Now, Soft Lions are getting ready to return to the recording studio, and they need your help to get there.
Their new record will be recorded at Tiny Telephone Recording in San Francisco by none other than John Vanderslice. That sounds like a recipe for some great recordings but, because such is the world, these things cost money. So, to scare up some scratch for their latest endeavor, Soft Lions are playing a “FUNdraiser” show.
The “super sick party” will be held at North Park’s Shaper Studios on Saturday, April 2. The band will be joined by fellow local acts The Schizophonics and Boy King (the recently reanimated other band of Soft Lions singer Megan Liscomb). A measly $5 donation will get you into the show, and if you’re feeling generous and donate $10 or more, you’ll also get a copy of Soft Lions’ Spellbreaker on clear orange vinyl.
That’s a damn fine lineup and a chance to send one of San Diego’s finest back into the studio. So, you probably won’t be too shocked to hear that we think you should check it out. You can let your Facebook friends know you’re going by RSVPing here.
