Bayside celebrated their 15th birthday at House of Blues San Diego with supporting acts Senses Fail, Man Overboard, and Seaway. However, the most devoted and manic fans definitely belonged to Senses Fail.
Seaway started off the night, their set relatively calm compared to the ones that would follow it. While many attendees admitted to not knowing the band, Seaway’s pop-punk definitely made an impression.
The better-established Man Overboard played to a much more feverish crowd. They had one of the more punk sounds of the night, transitioning well into Senses Fail’s chaotic madness.
Senses Fail singer Buddy Nielsen fed the already-wild crowd with his spark of near insanity, tripping and flipping all around the stage. Many hecklers began crowd surfing — much to the fury of the security guards — and Buddy did nothing to reign them in. The seasoned veterans that they were, Senses Fail owned the stage, regardless of the chaos that they left in their wake.
By the time the lights went down and Bayside took to the stage, the crowd was comparatively more subdued, but many attempted again to crowd surf. Lead singer Anthony Raneri was much tamer compared to the night’s other singers, but he knew what the crowd wanted from him and sang with ease and experience.
