Philadelphia noise rockers Nothing played to an fan-filled Soda Bar on January 30.
Nothing played a short set that showcased their skills, penchant for guitar riffs, and themes of detachment. Usually the band kicks off their sets with “Bent Nail” — the single off their latest album, Guilty of Everything — but this time, they decided to put it in second place after “July.”
Although at first sight, members of Nothing seemed less-than-eager to shout their message to the world, it became clear that loudness would make up for it. Frontman Dominic Palermo’s lyrics speak about bleeding monsters and human suffering, using fantasy to explain it all. He sings about melancholy, but always comes back smiling to check if it’s actually true.
