It’s December, which means that Hollywood is unfurling its top-shelf material for Oscar consideration. One such hopeful is The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, directed by and starring Ben Stiller.

Stiller plays the titular Walter, a working-stiff wallflower whose only adventures occur in his imagination. SNL‘s Kristen Wiig costars as the object of his unrequited affection, and Adam Scott (Parks and Recreation, Party Down) plays his antagonistic coworker. Walter’s uneventful existence gets turned upside down when he decides to embark on a real-life, death-defying adventure.

If the trailer (which you can view above) is any indication, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty will be full of great visuals and poignant emotion. The dream sequences are reminiscent of Michel Gondry’s best work, and Stiller’s turns in films like Greenberg and The Royal Tenenbaums have proven that he’s capable of impressive dramatic range when the situation calls for it.
