The lovely ladies at SuicideGirls brought their traveling Blackheart Burlesque show to San Diego on Sunday.
The mere mention of SuicideGirls might call to mind images of tattoos and nudity, but Sunday’s jovial, pop-culture-obsessed show was closer to something you’d see at Comic-Con than at a strip club. An endlessly imaginative series of set pieces paid homage to Star Wars, The Big Lebowski, Kill Bill, Game of Thrones, The Fifth Element, and — during the night’s most satisfyingly surreal number — the original Planet of the Apes.
In a scene pulled straight from the imagination of every hormone-addled 14-year-old in America, the girls even dressed as Batgirl, Supergirl, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy for one song. Judging by the crowd’s vocal reactions, the attendees’ inner teenagers appreciated it as well.
