Former San Diegan Jewel put on a solo acoustic show at Humphreys on June 3. Jewel, who cut her teeth at Java Joe’s in Poway, has had an impressive career selling over 27 million albums worldwide.
Now living in Alaska (or possibly Texas, what’s the difference?), Jewel is currently touring the U.S. on the aptly named “Greatest Hits Tour” where she performs a solo set of many of her singles and hits from her over 20-year career. In between jokes and stories of how she wrote her songs as well as musings about her life with husband Ty Murray, she strummed stripped-down versions of many classics hits.
Highlights included a rendition of a recent take on Johnny and June Carter Cash’s “Ring of Fire,” as well as hits like “Foolish Games” and “Hands.” The singer/songwriter, who is a Humphreys regular, also took shouted requests from the enthusiastic audience while taking time to answer questions about her family’s recent reality show Alaska: The Last Frontier and even bringing her younger brother up to entertain the crowd.
