Just one week after being branded with Pitchfork’s almighty Best New Music distinction, Grimes played a sold-out show at the Soda Bar on Friday. Writers at CityBeat and Hipster Runoff might be busy arguing over 23-year-old Claire Boucher’s staying power, but for her part, the young musician seemed grateful and unaffected by her newfound acclaim. Smiling sheepishly and repeatedly thanking the crowd, she performed faithful renditions of songs from her hit new album, Visions. The blogosphere can quibble about Boucher’s longevity all it wants, but her undeniable talent and affable enthusiasm seem destined to outlast the grumbling of her critics.
