San Diego favorites The Silent Comedy have just told us that they’ve been chosen to play the George, WA stop of the Dave Matthews Band Caravan.
The 3-day festival will be held from September 2-4 at the Gorge Ampitheatre, and boasts an impressive lineup that includes Gogol Bordello, The Roots, Devotchka, Fruit Bats, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Josh Ritter and the Royal City Band, and the subtabularly dreaming Dave Matthews himself.
Playing alongside a star like Matthews is just the latest point on The Silent Comedy’s upward trajectory — the band recently wrapped up a tour supporting Oscar-winning troubadour Ryan Bingham. We spoke with singer/bassist Josh Zimmerman about the high-profile Caravan slot, and he had this to say:
We are honored to be asked to play the [festival]. We have have been interacting with some of those guys in the past few months, and it has been a really incredible experience. On top of that, The Gorge is one of the most beautiful venues in the United States, and is a size (20,000+ capacity) that is hard to wrap your brain around. As The Silent Comedy grows and evolves, we have had a lot of awesome opportunities, but this is probably the biggest yet. It’s going to be an amazing weekend.
A 20,000+ capacity arena is a big leap for a band that played its first show at Gelato Vero, but — as anyone who has seen The Silent Comedy play can attest — not at all a surprising one. Tickets for the Dave Matthews Band Caravan can be purchased here.
