Remember The Rest? We profiled them for Poetic Memory back in July.
Well, the Ontario-based band just signed to Something in Construction records. To celebrate, they’re offering their Walk on Water EP for all to download—free of charge!
The Rest are often compared to Arcade Fire and Grizzly Bear, which is a tall order, but it’s also reasonable. If you listen to some of the tracks on Walk on Water, you’ll quickly see that they’re going for a big sound (they are a seven-piece band, after all).
Tracks on the EP include “Drinking Again”—the kind of song that makes you take a deep breath whenever it comes on—as well as “Walk On Water” “The Close Western”, and “With Every Heartbeat”, a Robyn cover. The music is subtle yet strong, serious yet exuberant, and beautifully arranged; the songs ebb and flow, take twists, make unexpected detours. It’s good stuff, and you can download the whole thing here.
And it’s no wonder that “Drinking Again” is such an amazing song. When they’re at home, the band finances themselves by making and selling their own beer.
They have a couple of London dates lined up in October. If you’re in the U.K., check ’em out. If not, just download the EP.
