On one hand, Baltimore-based songstress Elise Major’s self-titled release may feel a little derivative; on the other hand, it’s hard to imagine her live show leaving anyone disappointed.
One thing’s for sure: it’s a rocking, rollicking, reboot of 90s alternative rock. The album jumps right into the rock, and the trend continues throughout. Major and her band produce catchy riffs as she wails on the mic–sometimes like a female Ten-era Eddie Vedder.
Major obviously has some pipes and serious guitar skills, but sometimes her lyrics and the music itself seems tired; perhaps she’s still finding her sound.
